Without a visit to the Great Wall, your journey to Beijing will be incomplete. The Great Wall is so well-known that it should be on everyone’s itinerary when visiting Beijing. The best-preserved portions of the Great Wall are Badaling and Mutianyu, both of which are easily accessible from Beijing. The Jinshanling portion is magnificent, but it takes four hours to get there.
Check out our guide to see which one is best for you: Great Wall of Mutianyu or Badaling
The Badaling Great Wall is roughly 70 kilometers from Beijing and is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the summer and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the winter. Toboggan rides and cable cars are offered from the bottom of the west car parking lot to the east car parking lot. Disabled access and ATMs have been added to the facilities. Many tourists, both domestic and international, visit this part.
The Great Wall of Mutianyu is less touristy than Badaling, and it is a little further away from Beijing. The cable car, chairlift, and toboggan ride are all available for families. The Ming dynasty’s outstanding guard towers, walls, and superb views are seen in this part.
